Budget Ids

Budget Ideas (Instructional Design, E-Learning and things I love)

PLN??

I don’t know about you, but there are times when I am drowning in all the information available to me on a professional level.  I want to be on the cutting edge of my field, explore all the opportunities I can.  I want to do this because I take pride in my work and I want to be an asset to my employer.   This is one the of the reasons I started Budget Ids.  I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned with others who face the same situation.  Budget Ids is not topic, it’s many topics because in today’s work place, I feel people have to wear many hats.  I enjoy being a jill-of-all trades.

By now you are probably wondering what the title, PLN has to do with what Budget Ids is.  Honestly, until recently I’ve never heard of the acronym PLN.   PLN stands for Personal Learning Network and from my understanding is mainly a target for Educators.   Okay, so I am an educator indirectly so I wanted to figure out how this PLN might work with my interests, which include Education (Corporate, College and k-12), Instructional Design, Computers, E-Learning, Technology, SharePoint, Social Media, Learning Technology, Software, Web Design, Video (Shooting and Editing), Graphic Design, Photography, Acting, Person

al Speaking, Creative Writing, Poetry and a few other stray topics.   I desperately need a PLN to keep track of all the things I like to do.  Yes, I know it is a lot of things, but if you

think about it .. if you are an E-Learning / Instructional Design specialist at some point in your career you will be asked about video training.  When you have to get into video training, you need edit the video, when you edit the video, you’ll want a good photograph of the instructor to use for a bio. Your instructor may not know how to properly stand, or enunciate their words …having been involved in theater most of my adult life I’ve been able to offer some tips and tricks.   There is a method to madness, it’s like mind mapping my interest.  Back to the point.

I started with a mind map to see how I imagine my own PLN. Then I looked for resources online, and I found Pinterest and Learnist.  Believe it or not, people use Pinterest as a PLN, I do and it’s been great.  I’ve also started using Learnist for more professional things. Here is a list of helpful articles I found to get you started.   The articles are extremely helpful, especially if you thinking about how to start your own PLN and get on the social/digital media bandwagon.

Personally I know about the tweets, the facebook and all that, but I don’t want too much information out there about me.

Tools to consider for a PLN.

Hope this helps!
